Additional learning requirements (OFA) - K21

In order to be admitted to undergraduate programmes, prospective students must take a test which assesses their prior knowledge.

Students seeking admission into the curricula BUSINESS / TOURISM / COMMUNITY SERVICES must take the TOLC-SU test, which focuses on linguistic-expressive skills and logical-mathematical reasoning.

Those who rank high enough for admission but score less than 30 out of 50 in the first three sections of the TOLC-SU test (Reading comprehension and knowledge of the Italian language; Knowledge and skills acquired at school; Logical reasoning) are assigned additional learning requirements — also known as OFA, from the Italian obbligo formativo aggiuntivo. The OFA must be fulfilled by the end of the first programme year, by taking remedial coursework. Failure to fulfil the OFA by this deadline results in the student being barred from taking any further exam. Accordingly, students who enrolled in the programme in the AY 2023-2024 and failed to fulfil the OFA by February 2025 are now not allowed to take exams (unless, in the meantime, they have fulfilled the OFA).

Similarly, students who first enrolled in the programme in the AY 2024-2025 will be barred from taking exams if they do not fulfil the OFA by February 2026.

The OFA remedial course is held online and comprises self-learning activities combined with the support of a tutor. Students will have to pass a final test in order to fulfil their OFA.

The Student Office will send a communication to the University e-mail address of all students who have been assigned an OFA, with a link to the course platform (also available on this page) and an indication of the date from which the platform will be opened.

Even after they have been barred from taking exams, students can still take the OFA test. Once they pass the OFA test, they will be able to continue with their studies.

The STRANIMEDIA curriculum is reserved for non-Italian mother tongue students holding a foreign qualification. Students seeking admission into STRANIMEDIA must take a selection test, which is designed to assess their knowledge of Italian language and culture. For further information, please see the call for applications.
Applicants who rank high enough for admission but score less than 60 out of 100 in the admission test are assigned an OFA. This OFA must be fulfilled by the end of the first year, otherwise the student is barred from taking any further exam.

Even after they have been barred from taking exams, students can still take the OFA test. Once they pass the OFA test, they will be able to continue with their studies.

To fulfil the Italian OFA, STRANIMEDIA students must complete a course of Italian as a foreign language organised by SLAM — University of Milan Language Centre, and pass the corresponding end-of-course test.
Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders can contact the University's Disability and SLD Services and submit a request for special accommodations, along with a copy of their disability/SLD certificate. If the request for accommodations is approved, the student will have to notify the OFA tutor, who will ensure that accommodations are granted during the test.
